Commissioners for Oaths and Notaries are not the same. Understanding the differences can save you time and money.
In Alberta, a Commissioner for Oaths is appointed by the Alberta Government. A Commissioner for Oaths can deal with Affidavits, Affirmations, and Declarations in and for Alberta. A Commission for Oaths appointment expires and must be renewed. Commissioners for Oaths use a stamp to accompany their signature.
A Notary Public can administer and attest Oaths and take Affidavits, Affirmations, and Declarations. Notaries can also certify and attest true copies of a documents, and can witness, certify, and attest the execution of documents. Notaries use a stamp and a seal to accompany their signatures, and can commission documents to be used in Alberta, within Canada, and internationally.
Depending on the nature of your matter, a Commissioner for Oaths may be sufficient. If the documentation is meant for use outside of Alberta, a Notary is typically required.
If you require a Commissioner for Oaths, don't hesitate to contact us!
When you make a Court Application, you must typically serve documents upon the other party or parties involved.
Process Servers charge a fee to serve court materials and complete an Affidavit of Service. They may also be able to help you find someone.
A Process Server is an independent third party to the dispute. Sometimes, people attempt to avoid service, so a Process Server who is not known to the recipient may get documents delivered more easily.
If you need documents served, don't hesitate to contact us!
